How to Create and Manage Micro Leaderboards in Zenler

Written by Zenler Support

Overview

Micro Leaderboards allow you to create focused leaderboards for specific courses and communities within your Zenler platform.

Instead of displaying one overall leaderboard, you can create multiple leaderboards tailored to different courses, communities, cohorts, or challenges. This allows learners to see how they are performing alongside others in the areas they are most interested in.

By making progress and participation more visible, Micro Leaderboards help encourage engagement, friendly competition, and a stronger sense of community.

Key Features of Micro Leaderboards

  • Course and Community-Specific Rankings: Create individual leaderboards for selected courses, communities, or a combination of both.

  • Customizable Point Sources: Choose which courses and communities contribute points toward each leaderboard.

  • Flexible Display Options: Display leaderboards on the Student Dashboard, Community Pages, or both.

  • Multiple Ranking Periods: Allow learners to view rankings for the last 7 days, 30 days, or all time.

  • Multiple Leaderboards: Create as many Micro Leaderboards as needed for different courses, communities, or learning groups.

  • Leaderboard Preview: Preview how the leaderboard will appear to learners before saving.

How to Create a Micro Leaderboard

Step 1: Create a New Micro Leaderboard

Navigate to the Micro Leaderboards section in your Zenler account and select the option to create a new leaderboard.

Enter a name for your leaderboard.

Choose a descriptive name that helps identify its purpose, such as:

  • Course Progress Leaderboard

  • Community Engagement Leaderboard

  • 30-Day Learning Challenge

Step 2: Select the Point Sources

Choose the courses or communities whose points should contribute to the leaderboard.

You can select specific courses, communities, or both, depending on the purpose of your leaderboard.

Zenler combines the points earned from the selected sources to calculate the rankings.

Example: If you select Course A and Community B, points earned from both selected sources will contribute to the leaderboard rankings.

This allows you to create rankings focused on particular learning activities rather than overall platform engagement.

Step 3: Configure Leaderboard Visibility

Choose where learners can view the Micro Leaderboard.

Available display options include:

  • Student Dashboard: Display the leaderboard on the learner's dashboard.

  • Community Pages: Display the leaderboard within community pages.

  • Both: Make the leaderboard accessible from both locations.

Select the display option that best suits your requirements.

Step 4: Preview the Leaderboard

Before saving, use the preview option to see how the Micro Leaderboard will appear to learners.

Review the leaderboard name, selected point sources, and display settings to ensure they match your requirements.

Step 5: Save the Micro Leaderboard

Once you have configured and reviewed the settings, save the Micro Leaderboard.

The leaderboard will then be available to learners in the selected display locations.
